A doctor in Brussels recently captured images of an ovary releasing an egg while he was performing a partial hysterectomy on a 45 year old woman. Not only are these the clearest images ever obtained of human ovulation but doctors and scientists are also surprised at how slowly ovulation takes place. They used to assume it happened very fast, but the process actually spanned about 15 minutes. Naturally this reminds us how little medical science actually knows about the human body and also makes hope that this guy had a valid reason for performing a hysterectomy on such a young woman with a functioning reproductive system. Posted by shanika@trying to get pregnant quickly | November 10, 2009, 11:39 amI don’t think one should question whether this doctor had a good reason for performing a hysterectomy on this “young” woman – at 45 most woman are probably close to the menopause anyway – awsome picture for medical science none the less – pity more doctors didn’t have their camera’s at the ready during general procedures
